Check Out
The Brunswick Area!

Founded in 1761, North Brunswick is best
described as a great place to work, live, and raise families. It is a
culturally diverse, central New Jersey township covering 12.44 square miles
with a population of approximately 33,000. The balance of commercial and
residential development help to ensure it maintains low property taxes while
delivering an extremely strong complement of local services, excellent schools,
and a variety of recreation programs for all ages. While this set of pages is
designed to serve the residents of North Brunswick, we invite everyone to check
us out.
The first permanent
settlement of North Brunswick territory came in 1761, when Dutch and French
settlers purchased land from native Indians who were withdrawing to
Pennsylvania and Ohio. Within ten years, the area had grown to include 1,400
persons, 379 horses, and 792 cattle.
The first "industrial park" in North
Brunswick appeared as early as 1750 as water power from the Lawrence Brook
was harnessed to provide energy for the operation of a variety of mills along
its banks. Most notable among these was the Parsons Snuff Mill, forerunner of
the George W. Helme Company's General cigar and Tobacco Company, which
continued the manufacture of tobacco products in Helmetta until a few years
ago.
How North Brunswick got its name has
provided many hours of trivia confusion. The aptness of the name has often
been questioned, especially since the township is actually situated south of
New Brunswick and west of East Brunswick. However, during the early part of the
19th Century, this area was commonly referred to as the "north ward of New
Brunswick" and the township is located north of the earlier organized Township
of South Brunswick.
North Brunswick best
suits those who enjoy the activities of the city but enjoy the quite of
suburbia. Having easy access to Rt. 1, Rt. 130, Rt. 18, the NJ Turnpike ( I
95), the train stations of New Brunswick and the buses to NY make North
Brunswick a wonderful choice.
The housing stock is quite diverse -
with condos in the low $80,000 range to estate style homes over a million,
and every thing in between! One of the things I like the best is you can be on
a street where the homes are older and close together, like in the city, and
then travel fifteen minutes on the same street and be in rural America with
horses, cows and farms. This is a place were a city kid can join the 4H
club.
South Brunswick is an
up and coming suburb. It is located south and east of North Brunswick as
well as it runs along the Somerset border to the south west. Offering wide open
spaces, farms and villages this sprawling community is a great place to
live.
Offering homes town
homes and condos in the eighty thousand range to homes in the Eight hundred
thousand bracket. Close proximity to all major highways and new Brunswick train
stations make South Brunswick a great choice.
